The doctor of Stalingrad (Der Arzt von Stalingrad) In Tranzit

The doctor of Stalingrad (1958)

History began in 1943. After the defeat at Stalingrad, the army doctor Böhler Fritz (OE Hasse) is captured by the Russians along with hundreds of soldiers being sent to a prison camp. Years after the end of the war, in 1949, Böhler and her fellow prisoners, even in the hands of their captors, they try to survive the harsh conditions of their captivity. When one of the German prisoners suffer an attack of appendicitis, Böhler, despite the ban on Russians, decides to risk more surgery, which further complicate the situation of the Germans, subject to further reprisals from his captors.

appeared in 1956 published in Germany the novel entitled Der Arzt Von Stalingrad , the German writer Heinz G. Konsalik , former German war correspondent, in the years after the war he devoted himself to writing a series of literary tales based on events in the battle fronts. In this case, Konsalik was based on personal experience of a German military doctor captured by the Russians at Stalingrad, the Doctor Ottmar Kohler, who had been repatriated to Germany in 1953, after ten years of captivity in the USSR . The book quickly became a runaway success sales, being translated into several languages \u200b\u200band was widely known in Western Europe. Not surprisingly, therefore, that the German film producers rush to move the history of the novel to film. The direction of the film went on Hungarian director Geza von Radvanyi , while for the lead role of Dr. Böhler solvent was elected German actor OE Hasse, who four years earlier, had offered a very good performance in Admiral Canaris, embodying the famous head of Abwerh .

Entering analyze the film I must say that "The doctor of Stalingrad " addresses a number of interesting issues when it comes to telling the story. I especially liked how the film peels the complex web of human relationships that develop between the guards and their captives Russian Germans relationships that range from mutual distrust and hatred, through pragmatism each other out when advantage of the circumstances, and even romances that arise between the German prisoners and for Russian women in the field. It is also interesting to note that despite being a movie from the 50, both language using the characters as how to address the topics covered, give the impression that it was a film ahead of its time in more than one aspect. There are also talks that are very good, as when Böhler, faced with complaints of a subordinate by the treatment they give the Russians, he recalls, "We are guests here ... in fact, no one came invite us." In the interpretive section, OE Hasse shines especially, being well supported by the other actors, including side include several famous German film of the era, such as Johannes and Messem Eva Bartok.

By putting some "buts" to the film should be noted that fails to delve into controversial issues concerning the feelings of guilt for the destruction caused in the USSR or the hatred between the opposing sides, and that conveys the impression of some idealized some situations and behavior of the main characters. Nevertheless, one must conclude that Stalingrad's doctor is a very careful film bill, good script and that trade has a story not without interest. Without becoming too prominent a movie, it does leave a good impression to the viewer. Recommended.

Best Way To Get Rid Of Scar Tissue Knee

In Tranzit (2008)

The story begins in early 1946, months after the end of the war. A group of German POWs arrives at a transit camp on the outskirts women of Leningrad. Despite being a field for women, Colonel Pavlov (John Malkovich), head of the NKVD in the area, German prisoners ordered to remain there with a hidden agenda. With the help of Dr. Natalia field (Vera Farmiga), Pavlov officials want to locate SS hiding under a false name from the German prisoners, Natalia threatening to deport her husband Andrei Siberia, mentally disabled as a result of injuries sustained during the war. However, the situation becomes complicated when there is a hint of romance between the doctor and one of the German prisoners, Max.

Tranzit In the typical case in which a very interesting script with a basic idea, is wasted by not knowing how to develop properly. The truth is that history, based on real events, of German prisoners sent to the Leningrad area to be guarded by women who had lived in first person the siege of the city and whose family and friends had died during the war, offered much scope for giving rise to a good movie. Which confirms the start of the film, showing the tense arrival of German prisoners to the field, and scorn and suffering physical violence by their former victims, now converted into executioners.

obtante not, after the first twenty minutes of footage, the story fades inevitably, at the same time the director loses the pulse of the narrative. This is mainly because the tone of the story, appropriately dark and oppressive in the first part of the story evolves as you go this, to the point of reaching be strangely syrupy, with the inclusion of several very poorly developed romantic plots, and even somewhat implausible. To this we must add the fact that the story lines that try to cover (prison drama, the story of espionage, and the romantic plot), are rather flat, so any stories that are inserted fully satisfactory for the viewer. And this is something that neither decent atmosphere, or the right of interpretation of the cast, especially the actors John Malkovich and Vera Farmiga , can solve. At all times, it feels the film, taking their first few minutes, it ends to find the right tone, and eventually left in a failed product, which cheapening the starting point of argument, which would have been likely brought more dramatic juice.

In short, In Tranzit , offers some interest in addressing an interesting historically, and also little trite from the cinematic point of view. But beyond that, and removing the interpretive profession good deal, does not offer too many points of interest. A passable film, but disappointing in more ways than one.

My Dogs Lip Is Peeling

The Brest Fortress (Brestskaya Krepost)

The Brest Fortress (2010)

The story begins on June 21, 1941. A warm summer evening, the young cadet Afimov Alexander, a member of the military band of the garrison at Brest, enjoy the peaceful life of the barracks. However, only a day later, the Germans by surprise attack, surrounding the citadel of Brest, and initiating an intense assault that hits the fierce defense of the Russian soldiers. During the following days will witness Afimov except for the heroic resistance position against enemy attack, a defense led by three officers: the commander Pyotr Gavrilov , Commissioner Efim Fomin, and Lieutenant Andrey Kizhevatov , determined to face the Germans until the last breath.

The siege of the fortress of Brest was one of the fiercest fighting of those who fought during the initial phase Operation Barbarossa, the invasion of the USSR by the German Wehrmacht . The citadel of Brest was an old Russian fort S. XIX on the shores of Rio Bug , who had been occupied by the Germans after the invasion of Poland in 1939, but returned to Russian hands under the terms of the Molotov - Ribbentrop pact to partition Poland. In 1941, the position, located on the axis of advance of Army Group Centre was one of the key border goals Barbarossa . At the beginning of the German invasion, the garrison of the citadel was about 3,500 men including soldiers, border guards and members of the NKVD.

The Germans thought they could capture the position quickly, but the initial assault was rejected by the fierce resistance of the defenders, well barricaded behind the thick walls of the fortifications. In the end, the fortress withstood the siege for 8 days (22 to June 30, 1941) and capture cost the Wehrmacht casualties some 1,500 dead and wounded, in addition to having to resort to intensive support the Luftwaffe to reduce the tenacious Russian defenders. Thus, the siege of Brest became a paradigm of resistance of the Red Army during the first weeks of war, reason why in 1965 the Soviet government decided to grant the honorary name citadel "Heroic Strength , creating in the place a museum memorial to the defenders of Brest. The project of bringing the story of the siege of Brest to the cinema has had a budget of $ 7 million and was funded through the studios co-production between Russia and Belarus, with significant participation of the Belarusian state television, which provided most of the money needed for the shoot.

course The Brest Fortress is to save the memory and pay tribute to the courage of the defenders of the fort, most of whom died in battle or were captured by the Nazis after the surrender of it. The film starts showing an excellent staging, which highlights the careful reconstruction of indoor and outdoor stages, a very elegant atmosphere, and a perfect military props, including the appearance of various German cars that look authentic Panzer III World War II tanks. In addition, it should be noted the superb quality of the picture, coming round the outstanding level of technical section of the film.

However, coming to appreciate the narrative, can not say that the story development scratched the same level as the technical aspects. This is because the movie takes from the first time a clear and unequivocal patriotic tone when recounting the facts, leaving little room for interpretation of the viewer: this is a story of "good" (the Russians) versus bad (the Germans). Personally I missed any mention of the prospect of the battle from the other side, even if only a secondary, but to complement the Soviet point of view about the battle.

Moreover, the film certainly does not suffer from lack of action, and that over three quarters of the footage is devoted to show action and fighting scenes, with brief interludes between them. But for that same reason, the discourse is in a very background and development of the central characters is rather schematic. As for the performances, I must say that the performers met without great fanfare in their respective roles, on the other hand, are rather stereotyped and not much room left to showcasing the actors. However, we must recognize that the action scenes are generally very well filmed, with hyper-realistic visual stamp that is customary in the latest war production, which partly offset the overly patriotic tone of the story and the lack balance between the discursive and the war film.

In conclusion, The Brest Fortress is a title that provides a very interesting battle scenes of remarkable visual bill. However, from the narrative point of view, relies on formulas and positions already far exceeded today. Despite this, surely appeal to fans of war movies for their good work on the technical and recall one of the great battles of World War II.

Follow Up Emailafter Interview

The amanereces are here more gentle (A zori zdes tikhie)

The sunrises are more quiet here (1972)

The story places us in Karelia on the border between Finland and Russia in 1941. In a tiny village located in the rear of a quiet sector of the front, Sergeant Major Vaskov is commissioned to establish a position of anti-aircraft battery. Shortly thereafter, and to the surprise of Vaskov, command area sends a platoon of women who will be responsible for serving the anti-aircraft guns. Despite the initial reluctance of the sergeant, soon emerging camaraderie between anger and their subordinates, whose personal stories will gradually getting clear. One day, the idyllic tranquility of the face is altered when one of the women in the woods discovers the presence of two German paratroopers, which will Vaskov, along with five of its fighters, go in your search.

The sunrises are gentler here meant the film adaptation of the eponymous novel by Russian writer Boris Vasilyev , author of several novels inspired military events during the war against the German invader. After its premiere, the film was well received in the USSR and even came to be nominated for the Oscar for best foreign film in the 1973 edition, a milestone in an era in which international and diplomatic relations between the USSR and the U.S. still had not normalized. But after receiving these awards, the film fell into undeserved oblivion, until in 2004 appeared again released in DVD format, which allowed the film again to have some distribution in the western market.

And it is fortunate that there was just because the truth is that The sunrises are more gentle here can be considered one of the best Soviet films on World War II. Far from indulging in epic or propaganda aspects, the film offers a poetic history of deeply important human drama about the war and personal sacrifice that all conflict involves, apart from being a tribute to women who fought and died in the battle front. In the first half of the film, which, in my view, it condenses the best-attended the presentation of the characters and developing their stories, so with a leisurely pace, we know the characters, their motivations and their lives before the outbreak of war, narrated by a series of flashbacks slightly dreamy tone.

I also have a well-proportioned letters of humor when describing the inevitable clash of mentalities between the punctilious sergeant Vaskov and their subordinates, yet they will gradually emerging among them an inevitable sense of camaraderie. I also liked the way they are described the protagonists of history, the manner of men, and women engaged in a war, but why not give up the inclinations of her femininity. After this first part, the second half of the film, which contains the strictly military's story shows how Vaskov and their fighters face dramatically to a group of German paratroopers in an unequal duel. Perhaps this part is more conventional in its development and at times, it is somewhat slow, but it is quite realistic and adequately serves to build a crescendo narrative that leads to the tragic ending and moving epilogue to the film, and contain some elements anti-war reminiscent of previous titles as " All Quiet on the front ."

Paragraph interpretation, and although the cast did not have any familiar face, we must recognize that the protagonist, Andrei Martynov , make up a very good character embodying the dedicated Sergeant Vaskov, and is highly supported by the female performers, all of which are very believable in their roles.

In conclusion, The sunrises are more gentle here is a magnificent example of Soviet war films as far as artistic quality is concerned. It is a title that provides a very moving human story, devoid of airs epic or propaganda, and narrated in a rather slow, but does move the viewer in more than a moment. A title to discover, which recommend viewing to anyone who appreciates quality cinema and rich in nuances narrative.

Kamikaze: die for those we love (Ore wa, kimi no tame no koso Shini or iku)

Kamikaze: die for those we love (2007)

The story begins in 1944. Given the increasingly desperate military situation of the Japanese forces in the Pacific, Vice Admiral Onishi decided to create a corps of suicide bombers, called Kamikazes , to attack American ships in the fleet against them crashing their planes loaded with bombs . The story centers on the head of one of the kamikaze units, Lieutenant Tabata , And Mrs. Take , the manager of a restaurant next to the airbase Chira, where they prepare the suicide pilots, who will narrate the history and concerns of these young people during the weeks prior to being sent combat.

Kamikaze, die for those we love is a recent Japanese production directed by Taku Shinjo a screenplay based on the book by Shintaro Ishishara , former governor of Tokyo, who collected the testimony of several drivers kamikaze with the cooperation of Take Torihama . This old woman was charged with a restaurant near Chira air base, where hundreds of suicide bombers set off bound for Okinawa during the final weeks of the war, with which he had the opportunity to personally address many of these young kamikaze pilots , and know personal stories, which formed the basis for the book that inspired Ishishara and stories that appear in the film.

Thus, directly inspired by the stories in the book, Kamikaze die for those we love offers a novel perspective that we consider when describing the motivations of the young Japanese pilots who accepted immolate themselves in an act of sacrifice and useless at that point in the war. In that sense, the film offers a portrait of the kamikazes that deviates from the topic of fans diametrically fighters, dehumanized and unfeeling, to show a more human portrait of them. Departing from the stereotype, the film shows a group of young people fresh from adolescence, with artistic, love and anxious about the fate of their relatives who were morally coerced and even forced by his superiors to missions suicide. Certainly a novel approach, which is quite rich from the historical point of view.

However, when developing the topic, in my view, the story does not end completely connecting with the audience. And this is mainly due to the dramatic part of the narrative, which occupies two thirds of the footage, it is quite irregular. Although there are some very successful dialogue scenes (for example, when the younger brother of one of the kamikaze naively asks this: "If you die ... Japan wins? "), in general, film sequences abuse discourse that are rather flat and repetitive. As for the war, it is remarkable the appearance of several fighter aircraft that appears genuine Ki-43 Oscar , and recreation of the attacks on the U.S. fleet by excellent computer-generated visual effects that give spectacular to the war of the story, although this is finally a little corseted, between the dramatic and protracted epilogue to the story, clearly you can spare a few minutes of footage.

In summary, Kamikaze, die for those we love is an interesting example of Japanese war movies, the main incentive is to offer the Japanese version of the conflict from a new perspective. It is a film of all round at the cinema, but it is a correct title bill and quite accomplished in the visual. Certainly pleased moviegoers of World War II.

Dress Cut Down Too Low

Admiral Yamamoto (Rengo Kantai Shirei chōka: Isoroku Yamamoto) Into the Storm

Admiral Yamamoto (1968)

The story begins in 1939. As the war in Europe, with many high-ranking Japanese military pressure on the government to establish an alliance with Germany, Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto (Toshiro Mifune) is opposed to the war against the United States, warning the staff of American industrial power, which earned him the enmity of the army commanders. However, when the Japanese government finally decides to enter the war by attacking Pearl Harbor, Yamamoto was placed in front of the Combined Fleet of the Imperial Navy to conduct naval operations across the Pacific.

Rengo Kantai Shirei chōka: Isoroku Yamamoto ("The Combined Fleet Admiral: Yamamoto Isoroku") is Japan's production the late 60's, dedicated to probably the most famous Japanese military S. XX, Admiral Yamamoto . At the outbreak of World War II, Yamamoto, who had participated as an ensign in the Battle of Tsushima in 1905, and was one of the Japanese military's most respected and prestigious, and his early death in air combat in 1943, made her figure was elevated to hero status symbol for the Japanese people. In this case, the narrative covers the period between 1939 and the death of Admiral, which occurred on April 18, 1943, after being shot down the bomber who was traveling in a squad P-38 fighter, especially sent to intercept Yamamoto's aircraft, knowing the allied intelligence of the route would follow the same, thanks to the interception of Japanese coded messages.

In this sense, the film offers a correct summary of the main political and military events of the period relates, in addition to offering a portrait quite complimentary, and sometimes, almost hagiographic, of the character. Personally I especially liked the part that shows the position of Yamamoto cautious about the real potential of Japan to win a war against the Western allies, and preparing the attack on Pearl Harbor . Not bad as an account of the Japanese defeat at Midway , reflecting faithfully the circumstances that led to the destruction of the fleet of aircraft carrier Admiral Nagumo in that decisive naval battle, which definitely changed the fortunes of war in Pacific.

However, the film also has much less successful aspects, besides the aforementioned portrait Yamamoto entirely benign. First, to recreate the scenes of aerial combat, naval, and removing some shots filmed footage which are well set, we used a series of fairly obvious and crude models, so that the visual effects are quite poor even by the standards of the time. Not surprisingly, the performance of special effects Eiji Tsuburaya accounted known world at that time by being responsible for the visual effects of films of the series " Godzilla," which were series production of pure B.

addition, the film suffers from other defects common to Japan's war production: its absolute Manichaeism present when the Japanese motivations for entering the war, which were purely imperialist and even racist. Although at least, must be recognized that contains a hint of self to show the insidious influence of exalted patriotism of the chiefs of the army, eager to enter the war on the side of the Axis. Similarly, the portrait is made of Japanese politicians and military in general is quite nice, showing a gallery of characters rather flat and schematic. In any case, it is remarkable the enormous charisma interpretation of that is showing actor Toshiro Mifune impersonating Yamamoto, a role he repeated eight years later, turning to take on the role of the famous admiral in " The Battle of Midway ."

In short, Admiral Yamamoto offers a correct historical-biographical story about the character. But from the standpoint of the films, the movie is pretty mediocre in the visual and narrative. Be worthwhile especially for the interpretation of Mifune, and will appeal to amateur historian of World War II, but it is a title which, in terms of artistic quality, is nothing more discreet.
