The Speech of the King (2010)
After their problems become apparent to speak public, because a stuttering child who suffers from the Prince Albert (Colin Firth), Duke of York, went through different speech treatment specialists trying to solve your problem. All attempts will be fruitless until he meets the eccentric therapist Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush), an Australian whose unorthodox methods to treat his patient's stuttering start to show results. Soon, Lionel's help it will become imperative for Albert, especially when the abdication of his brother Edward and his relationship with the divorcee Wallis Simpson makes the prince becomes King George VI , should give radiated an important speech to the nation when the UK decides to go to war to stop Hitler advances in Europe.
I do with this review a little break in my series of commentaries on the films of the 40 and 50, to look back on the recent winner at the Oscars this year. film is based on a story conceived by writer David Seidler , who suffered stuttering during childhood and was fascinated to learn about the history of the problem of speech of King George VI and the friendship that was to open the therapist Lionel Logue spoke to the point that he decided to write a script to move that story to the movies. After several turns the project, once it was ready the outline of the script, sent it to several producers Londoners, who immediately agreed to take it to the screen, capturing the potential of history to the general public. The film quickly gained great public and critical success, becoming a creditor of 4 Oscars, including best film in this year.
Regarding the assessment of the film, we must begin by saying that " King's Speech" is a typical example of a story that raises many points original interest by sharing the wisdom of a state of grace. Colin Firth away her insecure and frightened role of Prince Albert, a man marked by an unhappy childhood, being in the shadow of his brother, and his speech impediment. Opposite him, a huge Geoffrey Rush, who perfectly embodies the therapist trained in the school of life, a character equipped with the necessary drops of eccentricity and love of Shakespeare, who is determined to the patient gets better at whatever price. And above all, the film is an ode to friendship that will arise between the two men, and they will overcome their initial limitations. In that sense, the development of history is not only interesting, but very attractive to the viewer, thanks to a well-proportioned letters of humor, and also the duo's undeniable gifts dramatic character, which achieve their respective characters printed registration best suited to each moment of its interpretation.
However, it also should be noted that " the king's speech" falls far short of reaching the status of a masterpiece. To begin, the theme of course is not entirely original, and amounts to a variation of 1994 film The Madness of King George . On the other hand, the narrative and visual aspect is just right, in the sense that the film does not try to innovate or surprise, and the development of the plot is rather predictable, so it does not dazzle the viewer. Finally, although the setting and staging are the undeniable stamp of British cinema craft itself, is not a film that stands out especially in those areas, so as a whole can be said to be a movie that pleases, rather than excites the viewer.
In conclusion it may be that " King's Speech "has somehow been credited with a glimmer of good work in the film mostly gray landscape of contemporary cinema. A movie actors, above all, and told with agility. Without being a great work, we must recognize the merit in the connection with the audience and tell a story with amenities. A title that does not dazzle but certainly recommended.
